The Book

Cinderella Goes Surfing: A Modern Day Fairy Tale
At 32, the author–our modern-day Cinderella–faces a Maverick's-size wave in the form of divorce and career change. The wave shatters the familiar: all the author's expectations about what her life will be like. Her German friend, leaving a 5-year study of Buddhism at Tassajara Zen Center, takes the author surfing for the first time just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The experience sets in motion a new tide which grows over the next decade, taking the author to Hawaii in search of the women who surfed with legendary waterwoman Rell Sunn; throughout California; south to Mexico and Brazil, east to New York City, Cape Cod, and Narragansett; and finally to France and Spain. The author's story of self-discovery and reinvention is interwoven with surfing, photography, and the women she meets along the way.

Intended audience is female, aged 12 to 100. A memoir, with photo book to follow. The related Blog and Music Videos featuringSuperFly SurfSpy will generate PR and sales for the book.

TV & Film

West Coast Wahines

A dramatic series based on the inspiring true stories of women surfers from around the world—ages 10 to 45—from collected interviews and photo essays, 1998 - 2008.

Logline: Five young girls from varied backgrounds use surfing and their friendship to face challenges growing up, then reconnect years later to support their continued quests for bliss.

Each episode opens in the near future. The five central, female characters are shown as adults, communicating via visual conferencing. They’re in their 30’s and 40’s.

Girls’ story lines: body image, being a “tomboy”, tattoos and piercings, sexual preference, growing up as a mixed-race child, growing up with a single parent, entering puberty, alcohol and drug use, being popular, having more or less money than your friends’ families.

Women's story lines: maintaining balance between work and play, dating as a single parent, dating older people, dating younger people, keeping separate residences with love relationships, plastic surgery, aging gracefully, health of the oceans/planet, global warming, frustrations at day jobs while pursuing dream job, not repeating/believing old “stories” about women, operating from abundance vs. scarcity, operating from trust vs. fear.

Surfing-related: attitude toward girls/women in the water, surf posers vs. “real” surfers, how surfing helps the girls/women in the rest of their lives by teaching balance, timing, awareness of environment; by building courage, strength, stamina, and providing clarity.

Music Videos

SuperFly SurfSpy
Surfing and dancing are quite closely related. While you do either, you can't think about anything else....and when you're done, you feel infinitely better than when you started! In this case, our heroine, SuperFly SurfSpy, does both. Of course.

Picture the base of the Golden Gate bridge, waves crashing. Early morning mist evaporates as the pinks and peaches of dawn break over an inky sea. One woman, cloaked in a wetsuit, paddles into a double-overhead monster, crouches and dominates. A Mission Impossible-type soundtrack pounds in the background. Cut to five wetsuited creatures who paddle in, scale the rocky shore, set down their boards, and break beats, in synch as the undercover SurfSpy story unfolds.

The music videos will feed blog traffic and fuel book sales. Advertisers/ Co-Marketers will appear on the blog and video sites.

Product

Love your body, love your planet. All product sold through Surfing 2 Bliss must fit this criterion. We don't want to fill our bodies, landfills and oceans with unnecessary crap, if you'll excuse my French. There's been a sea change, and it's high time we all got on board. Plus, who said that change had to be difficult? Let's have fun, creating a world where we beautify ourselves and our world without creating toxins, pollutants, child labor, and species extinction. Having said that, there's no restriction on the type of product Surfing 2 Bliss would like to promote: beauty, beverage, food, jewelry, sunscreen, surfboards, surf safaris, athletic wear, footwear, and media of all types.
